Van Zon’s colleagues pulled the animal from above and he lifted it up with one arm. Once out of the water, the rescuer immediately knew what to do. “It was dry and not super cold, but I went straight home where I took a hot shower.”
‘Really cool’
According to Doctor, her son ‘resolutely took off his clothes’ and jumped into the water. “Don’t think, just act,” she proudly tells NH Helpt. She thought the rescue operation was worth an NH Helpt cake, which he received last week in his hometown of Haarlem.
“I immediately thought of my mother,” says Van Zon, when asked what went through his mind when he was handed the cake. And she is indeed full of praise for her son. “I think it’s really cool that you don’t look at other people, but go ahead, jump in and see how things go,” she says proudly.
A bit clumsy
According to Van Zon, the people who walked the Labrador were not the owners of the animal. It was a friend who didn’t have the dog on a leash. “She walked 50 meters away. That was a bit clumsy of her. But she was very grateful.”
Fortunately, the Haarlemmer did not become ill from his splash in the Amsterdam water. And the cake? In any case, his first bite was ‘damn delicious’. “I’m going to drop by my mother’s house,” said Van Zon.
