2025 could be a real Neil Young year! Following the Glastonbury announcement and the impending release of an album held back in the ’70s, there’s now new music.
The singer-songwriter released their first song together with the band The Chrome Hearts on Friday (January 17th): “Big Change”.
The formation consists of Micah Nelson on guitar, Corey McCormick on bass, Anthony Logerfo on drums and Spooner Oldham on Farfisa organ. The song is presented as the work of Neil Young And The Chrome Hearts, suggesting that this is not just a short collaboration.
Neil Young is once again tough and loud
“Big change is coming!/Could be bad, and it could be good!” sings Young in the track. Whatever he means about big change coming, the song is an uncompromising rock number. Made to be celebrated live.
“Big Change Is Coming” was co-produced by Lou Adler. John Hanlon, the singer’s longtime sound engineer, describes it as a “hard-hitting, loud, irreverent rock ‘n’ roll splash of color on the screen in the style of a Jackson Pollack painting.”
Neil Young recently took a break for a few months to recover from an illness. In the meantime, of course, he was still active, preparing old material for re-release (not forgetting the third part of his archive box series).
However, there were initially contradictory messages surrounding the appearance at the Glastonbury Festival, which is one of this year’s highlights at the live event. But the problems have now been resolved.
