The performance is a completely different way to experience classical music. But what the Flanders Symphony Orchestra, led by the young Bruges conductor Martijn Dendievel, performs here will leave no one unmoved.
“What I certainly want to continue working on as a young conductor is to always ensure that we do these kinds of things,” says Martijn Dendievel. “Because it can be a gateway for people who may not have yet been to a classical concert to be taken along with such an actress. That is really what Maaike does. She takes the listener along and you can’t help but to follow and leave the hustle and bustle of this world behind for a moment.”
Maaike Cafmeyer: “That music, here too, is very impressionistic. And I thought: ‘In contrast to impressionism, I have to do something expressive, so that the music, which is very magical and magical, resonates with people even more.’ For me it is sometimes a fight against emotion, because that music is very moving.”
Pohadka will play in Ghent on Sunday and in Antwerp on January 26.
