The Italian national airline is Ita Airwaysfounded in 2020 to replace Alitalia. On 15 January 2025, the sale of 41% of Ita’s shares to Lufthansa was completed, with the figure destined to grow in future years until it becomes a full subsidiary of the German group. The airline currently flies in 61 destinationsto which are added another 21 derived from agreements code sharing. It’s part of the alliance SkyTeamwho however will leave following the acquisition to land in StarAlliance. Ita has an active fleet of 97 planesall built by the European consortium Airbus and with a relatively low average fleet age of 6.7 years. It should be underlined that all the aircraft currently in service have been each dedicated to an Italian athlete who made history in his sport.
