With 15 goals, Omar Marmoush is the second best goalscorer in the Bundesliga. There may not be any more hits.
The cash register is apparently ringing again at Eintracht Frankfurt. As the TV broadcaster Sky and the transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano unanimously report, Omar Marmoush is about to move to Manchester City. The Egyptian should bring up to 80 million euros. Part of the sum consists of bonus payments.
But: The Frankfurt striker’s medical check is still pending. City are also said to be insisting that Marmoush not be used in Eintracht’s Bundesliga game against Borussia Dortmund this Friday.
The 25-year-old is the Bundesliga’s most successful goalscorer after Harry Kane and has already scored 15 goals in 17 games, as well as 10 assists. He was involved in more than 60 percent of all Frankfurt goals and was the key figure in Eintracht’s outstanding first half of the season, which is currently third in the table.
A departure of the Egyptian would bring in a lot of money, but it also entails a high risk. Because Marmoush is definitely not easy to replace. According to media reports, there are two prominent names on the wish list: Arnaud Kalimuendo (Stade Rennes) and Jonathan Burkardt (Mainz 05), but Burkardt is not available in winter.
Christian Heidel made this clear in the “Bild” before Christmas: “Jonny Burkardt will definitely not leave the club in the winter. That is completely out of the question for me. No matter who comes.”
A few days ago, however, he said in “Sport Bild”: “If there is a situation where Jonny comes to us and wants to take the next, bigger step, then we will talk.” A change in summer is therefore conceivable. Eintracht just needs reinforcements as soon as possible if the Marmoush deal is finalized. So it remains exciting to see what happens in Frankfurt until the end of the transfer period.
