Preuß made almost no mistakes – and ended up in second place

Biathlete Franziska Preuß has consolidated her lead in the overall World Cup rankings. In Ruhpolding it wasn’t quite enough for them to make it to the top.
In the end, Franziska Preuß made just one shooting mistake: at the World Cup race on Thursday afternoon in her home town of Ruhpolding, Germany’s strongest biathlete was able to take second place in the individual 15-kilometer race. Preuß came in with the fourth-best running time, 35.7 seconds behind Frenchwoman Lou Jeanmonnot. This had hit all of her windows.
In the overall ranking, Jeanmonnot remains on Preuss’s heels. “I love being the hunter,” the 26-year-old told ARD about her current role as the Germans’ pursuer. Preuss still has a clear lead over Jeanmonnot. Her closest competitor is 101 points behind her.
Before Christmas, Preuss was still outstanding. Most recently in Oberhof, she only managed 28th and 30th place. Second place in Ruhpolding was now her seventh podium of the current season. If Preuß had not missed her first attempt in the standing stage, she would probably have celebrated her third victory this winter. The Swiss Amy Baserga came third.
