The Basketball Löwen Braunschweig makes a groundbreaking decision. The future of coach Jesus Ramirez has been clarified. What the Spaniard says about it.
Jesus Ramirez will remain coach of the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig beyond the current season. The Bundesliga club announced this on Thursday. The contract, which expires in the summer, was extended early by two years until 2027, according to the statement.
The Lions see the decision as a “strong signal” and an “important step” for the future. The 45-year-old Spaniard, who has been working as head coach of Lower Saxony under majority shareholder and NBA star Dennis Schröder since 2021, is responsible for a strong season so far.
As fifth in the table, the Braunschweigers are on course for the playoffs and are having their best season since 2002/03. They also had their longest winning streak since the 2020/21 season, winning six games in a row in November and December.
Löwen managing director Nils Mittmann raves about Ramirez: “He lives our program, identifies with our goals and is a fundamental factor in why we have established ourselves as a successful location for player development and support in recent years and have earned us a very good reputation on both German and international soil.”
But Ramirez doesn’t see himself as having reached his goal with the Lions. “We still have a long way to go and have to continue to develop,” warns the coach. “We have great potential and will continue to work to do things right so that the lion community is proud of us.”
And: The Spaniard also seems to really enjoy his private life in the Lion City. Ramirez emphasizes that his family is “very happy” in Braunschweig. “After four years here, we can’t imagine a better place to live.”
