Pitti Uomo is considered the start of the menswear season and groundbreaking for current trends. Away from the stands, the fashion mood of the industry can be seen at the Fortezza da Basso exhibition center and throughout Florence during the men’s fashion fair. After seasons full of trends, colors and individuality, street style seems to have cooled down a bit this season. Even if some brave visitors don’t let this get them down, overall there is a certain trend fatigue.

Simple and black

With the end of the pandemic sparking an explosion of color, everyone in a celebratory mood, and social media platforms flooding the fashion world with a new micro-trend every week, some seem to be exhausted by this sensory overload. They are returning to much calmer looks that rely on straight silhouettes without a lot of frills and are mostly in shades of black and other dark tones. The highest of feelings are small silver details such as the zipper or the buckle of the shoulder bag.

A ray of hope

Overall, Pitti Uomo doesn’t seem to be bursting with colors and extravagance this season. In addition to the usual Pitti Peacocks who parade around the exhibition grounds dressed in their tailored suits, hats and a coordinated coat, the tendency among other visitors also seems to be towards a more classic look, which goes hand in hand with the aforementioned trend fatigue.

Nevertheless, in this dreary winter time at the beginning of the year, there are a few visitors who break out of the crowd and continue to bring a bit of fun and joy to their wardrobe, even if only subtly. This was particularly illustrated by large-scale embroidery, knitting patterns or prints and art pieces on each piece. This colorful piece was the focus of the looks and was combined with simpler pieces.

Chic streetwear

Streetwear is constantly changing and now offers a wide range of styles and trends. As office guidelines have relaxed, streetwear fans seem to have grown up. So instead of the gold chain, the tie appears more and more often, instead of the baggy jeans there are wide suit pants and sometimes loafers instead of sneakers. Nevertheless, you don’t want to give up your DNA and so these new influences come together with common pieces like peaked caps, wide denim pieces and a certain casualness.
