On Wednesday evening, Germany started the handball world championship with a victory. DHB star Juri Knorr was injured – now there is an update.
Nils Kögler reports from Denmark
There is first news for handball fans regarding Juri Knorr’s injury (read more about the shocking moment here). The German Handball Association (DHB) announced on Thursday through national team manager Benjamin Chatton: “It basically looks positive that he will be available to us tomorrow. But we don’t know 100 percent yet. We can’t give the complete all-clear yet.” Germany has to prove itself against Switzerland on Friday (from 8:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker).
DHB star Knorr sustained an injury during an action in the 35:28 win (15:14) in the first game of the World Cup against Poland. When he tried to move inside during an attack in the middle of the second half, the 24-year-old slipped away without any influence from the opponent and fell to the ground. Knorr immediately grabbed his knee and had to leave the pitch.
National coach Alfred Gislason said on Wednesday evening: “He said it was just a sprain. It was a scary moment, but whether he feels better or worse tomorrow, let’s see.” Gislason also admitted: “Juri is also difficult for us to replace.” Now it looks like Knorr could be back on the pitch in the second World Cup duel.
