The Tuscan beats the Canadian in three sets (7-6 7-6 6-2) showing off relaxed nerves and lots and lots of talent. Lorenzo, in his career, had never managed to go this far in the Australian Slam and now he will face Shelton
Lorenzo Musetti flies to the third round of the Australian Open for the first time in his career, beating Denis Shapolavov in three sets (7-6 (3) 7-6 (6) 6-2 in two hours and 35 minutes the score). This is a match that demonstrates the difference between a talented player, the Italian, who is completing his maturation on and off the pitch and one, the Canadian, who has a wonderful arm, but unfortunately also a character with obvious difficulties to coexist with top level tennis. From the beginning it was understood that it would be a match, the one played on court 3 in Melbourne, with not too much tactics and many shots of rare beauty, and so it was.
calm

Musetti, however, was better than Shapovalov at keeping calm in the most complicated moments. Like at the beginning, for example, when the blue player immediately went down by a break, 0-3, and recovered immediately. In other times Musetti would have disbanded, but not today. The 2019 Australian Open junior champion then played a nice tie-break, with a small break at 5-0, but Shapovalov at that point began to show signs of nervousness towards the bench, swearing at coach Tipsarevic, and also giving a kick to an advertising billboard, complete with a warning. This is nothing new for the 25-year-old born in Tel Aviv. Having taken home the first set, Musetti did not slow down the pace, remaining solid even when Shapovalov won two break points at 2-2, which were promptly annulled, in an extremely balanced match, with gusts of class from both sides but without anyone managed to make the decisive breakthrough.
decisive moment

The end of the second tiebreak of the match was the perfect summary of the match: at 5-5 and serve Shapovalov throws the ball out of meters, at 6-5 and serve Musetti double faults but recovers immediately without freaking out, waiting for the error from the opponent who arrives, very punctually, with a double fault which also hands the second set into the hands of the blue. The match ended there, at that point, with Shapo mentally leaving the pitch and Musetti, implacable and confident, flying to the third round. Now for him Ben Shelton, who beat the Spaniard Carreno-Busta in 4 sets.
