(toskanews) – Great applause for the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella at the Rome Opera for the premiere of the Tosca by Giacomo Puccini conducted by Michele Mariotti. Tosca at the Rome Opera

Toscathe Roman opera par excellence, set between Sant’Andrea della Valle, Palazzo Farnese and Castel Sant’Angelo, is one of the most performed Puccini masterpieces in the capital; It was performed for the first time at the Opera on 14 January 1900, hence the particular flavor of the evening also because the staging takes up exactly that of the premiere.

The show directed by Mariotti was highly applauded: especially in the role of the protagonist, Saioa Hernàndez. Gregory Kunde played the role of Mario Cavaradossi, Scarpia, the ruthless baron, was the Armenian Gevorg Hakobyan, impressive in his voice and interpretation.

The direction of Alessandro Talevi brings to life the historical staging of 1900, traditional, dark and rich, a tribute to the visionary genius of Adolf Hohenstein, whose scenes are faithfully reconstructed by Carlo Savi, while Anna Biagiotti has taken over the original costumes. In the performances on 17 and 19 January, the baton will pass to Anastasia Bartoli in the role of Tosca and to Vincenzo Costanzo as Cavaradossi.
