Munich puts sustainable fashion talent in the spotlight.

In May, the Bavarian capital will host the Munich Fashion Awards for the first time, as the German fashion association Fashion Council Germany (FCG) announced on Friday. Under the motto “The European Sustainable Fashion Award With A Tech Twist” (in German: The European Prize for sustainable fashion with a technical touch), the event is aimed at aspiring designers from all over Europe who combine sustainability and contemporary aesthetics in their designs connect.

The aim of the competition, which is organized by the Munich Cultural and Creative Industries and the FCG, is to offer participants a platform to make their work visible and to give the winners innovative technological tools to… to help shape a fairer and more environmentally friendly fashion system. The competition will include two categories: Contemporary Sustainable Fashion and Accessories. The winners of both categories not only receive prize money between 3,000 euros and 25,000 euros, but also access to mentoring programs, licenses and extensive communication measures.

Designers whose company is based in the EU, Great Britain, Scandinavia or other defined countries can apply. Participants must have been active in the market for at least two years and a maximum of ten years and may employ a maximum of 30 employees. An expert jury will select five finalists per category who will present their collections and concepts on May 15 and 16, 2025 in Munich. The awards ceremony will take place as part of a glamorous awards show on the evening of the second day of the event.

Accompanying the competition, the event offers a specialist conference with industry experts as well as a public exhibition of the finalists’ designs. Applications for the Munich Fashion Award can be submitted until February 23, 2025.
