That was a clear demonstration of power: In the BBL, Bayern Munich taught the surprise team from Heidelberg a lesson and took first place. Alba Berlin and Ulm also achieved victories.
In Devin Booker, Niels Giffey (both 14 points) and Carsen Edwards (13), three Munich players achieved double-digit scoring values. For Heidelberg, Erol Ersek was the best thrower with 12 points. With the away win, the Bayern basketball team (10:4 wins) takes first place in the BBL ahead of Ulm (10:4). Heidelberg (9:5) is now third.
Strong Matt Thomas leads Berlin to victory
Alba Berlin also achieved success in the basement duel against the Frankfurt Skyliners with a score of 75:61 (41:36). With their sixth win of the season, the Berliners move up to 14th place. Frankfurt (3:12) remains second to last. The guests were in the lead for the entire game and only stumbled a bit at the beginning of the third quarter when the Skyliners got within two points thanks to a layup by Justin Theodore to make it 48:50.
But Berlin stuck to its guns and pulled ahead again with a 9-2 run by the end of the period. The match winner for the guests was shooting guard Matt Thomas with 25 points. Frankfurt’s Einaras Tubutis scored the most points for his team with 14.
Würzburg stumbles in Oldenburg
The Würzburg Baskets suffered a setback in Oldenburg. Würzburg lost 85:96 (40:38) to Oldenburg on Saturday and thus missed the jump to first place. The Lower Franconians pulled back a little to 49:38 with a 9-0 run at the beginning of the third quarter, but Oldenburg came back. Especially with a strong final quarter, the Lower Saxony team earned their seventh win of the season and moved closer to the middle of the table. Artur Konontsuk was the most successful thrower for Oldenburg with 30 points.
Ulm, on the other hand, is still at the forefront. The 2023 champions didn’t miss a beat in their 82:72 (48:28) win against the Rostock Seawolves. The hosts laid the foundation with a 25:12 in the first quarter and then continuously expanded their lead. The Ulm team lost the last two quarters, but in the end they were able to celebrate their tenth win of the season. Justinian Jessup contributed the most points with 15. D’Shawn Schwartz had 23 points for Rostock.
Braunschweig clearly beats Göttingen
The Löwen Braunschweig are on the way forward after a clear derby victory at BG Göttingen. Braunschweig was already clearly ahead at the break at 61:39 and was able to take it easy in the second half. In the end the lead was 21 points at 107:86. With a record of 9:5 wins, the Lions moved up to fourth place.
Rasta Vechta also achieved a victory, retaining the upper hand against the Central German BC with 87:79 (43:38) and moving past MBC in the table. The Hamburg Towers had already won their sixth win of the season with a 91:84 win against Baskets Bonn on Friday
