The familiar image in medium-sized rural municipalities such as this one is that of neighborhoods with terraced houses: a car in front of the door and generally a front and back garden. But the demand for types of housing is much more varied today, the need for housing is very urgent for many people and the car is increasingly perceived as a burden in many places.
In short: other solutions are needed. One of these is building apartment buildings around public transport hubs, based on the wish and idea that new residents are less dependent on a car and are more likely to opt for public transport and the bicycle.
Unique for Dijk en Waard, project manager Jan Thijs Dijkstra of the municipality realizes: “This is the first district in which you are going to grow urban, together. This was chosen to also preserve nature and not build everything up. “
There will also be bus stops and parking facilities on Stationsweg, so that the different types of mobility fit together well.
