The next multi-million transfer is coming to Frankfurt. High-flying star Marmoush is said to be about to move to Manchester. The sums involved are astronomical.

No, he hasn’t noticed any abnormalities with his top player during training in the past few days. What Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller said in the final press conference before the first Bundesliga game of 2025 at FC St. Pauli (Saturday, from 3:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker) is quite surprising.

Because: The headlines about striker Omar Marmoush have been rolling around the Riederwald since last weekend. A week ago, a false report spread in Marmoush’s home country of Egypt that the Hessian top player had already signed a contract with global club Manchester City. Since then there have been new water level reports about an alleged transfer, sometimes every hour.

The latest news is: Omar Marmoush, who is currently playing the season of his life with 18 goals in 24 competitive games, wants to move to City and is said to have already reached an agreement with star coach Pep Guardiola’s club. This is reported by the “Bild” newspaper, among others. The pay TV broadcaster Sky adds that there are negotiations between the two clubs.

Coach Guardiola doesn’t seem to be involved – or at least doesn’t want to admit it. “It’s very simple. No comment,” he categorically blocked any questions on Friday before City’s cup game against Salford.

Guardiola is said to have chosen the fast and tricky Marmoush himself as reinforcement and the club has therefore put out feelers for the Egyptian. This is reported by “Bild” and “Kicker”.

The background: Man City is in by far the biggest crisis of Guardiola’s eight and a half year term in office.

After six championships as well as victories in the Champions League and the Club World Cup, the club, which has been nurtured into a world club with investments from Abu Dhabi, is currently in sixth place in the Premier League – for the powerful investors from the Emirates, the fans who are used to success and the still extreme ambitious Guardiola an unacceptable situation.

Even though there were two recent wins against Leicester (2:0) and West Ham (4:1), the club from the northwest English working-class city is twelve points behind leaders Liverpool FC in the league. In the Champions League, City, in 22nd out of 36 places, is also worried about making it to the round of 16.

This makes it all the more logical to add more staff. Especially in attack, where former Dortmund player Erling Haaland scores as always with 16 goals from 20 Premier League games, but he lacks an adequate counterpart.

The perfect complement to Haaland?

And that’s exactly where Marmoush comes into play, who could optimally complement the angular and extremely physically present Haaland with his wealth of tricks, his speed and his playful finesse.

Especially since Jack Grealish hasn’t been able to do this in a convincing manner recently and coach Guardiola is said to be “dissatisfied” with the England international, as “Bild” reports.

Marmoush is unlikely to be as expensive as Grealish, whose transfer cost City 117.5 million euros in 2021, but the reigning English champions would have to fork out a considerable sum for the Frankfurt professional.

The British newspaper “The Telegraph” reported on Tuesday that City was ready to invest around 50 million pounds, or around 60 million euros, for Marmoush. But the English probably won’t be able to get by with that.
