The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has started an investigation into three water buffaloes infected with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Hönow, Germany, just northeast of Berlin. An initial risk analysis shows that no animals have been moved from that area to the Netherlands in the past six weeks, but there may have been “indirect imports”, Agriculture Minister Femke Wiersma writes in a letter to Parliament.
