Some Bundesliga teams have already shown the way. Now a third division team is following suit and withdrawing from the short message service X.

Arminia Bielefeld has decided to end the use of the social media platform X, owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, with immediate effect. As the third division team announced, this decision was made after a thorough analysis.

The club management justified the move with the change in the network since Musk took over. Managing Director Christoph Wortmann and President Rainer Schütte explained that the development of the platform in recent months had been negative as a result. They also referred to the political influence that Musk wields as the owner. “We do not want to and cannot support this abuse,” said Wortmann and Schütte, also referring to the club’s own statutes.

Instead of on X, Arminia will be active on the “Bluesky” platform in the future. This means the club joins the list of several clubs that have already said goodbye to X. The Bundesliga clubs SC Freiburg, Werder Bremen and FC St. Pauli, among others, had already taken this step.
