Arjen Lubach’s commercial adventure will really start in March. How will his first week at RTL 4 go down with viewers? “Maybe he can go without commercial breaks for the first week.”
Arjen Lubach does not know what he is experiencing: since this year, he and his team have suddenly been enjoying the multi-million dollar rain from RTL 4. They have to work hard for it, because his new daily program starts in March at the channel of program boss Peter van der Monarch. Details are lacking, but it will probably be visible again around 10 p.m.
Ad-free
For all presenters of the public broadcaster who embark on a commercial adventure, the moment they have to announce a commercial break for the first time is always a bit difficult for the ego. After all, it is the moment that marks that they too have simply succumbed to big business. How are they going to solve that with Arjen?
Arjen has made programs with a VPRO stamp for years and his hard-line supporters don’t like this commercial switch at all. And Youp van ‘t Hek also said: “Give in to the commercialists. I hope that he has agreed with Peter van der Vorst that it will be broadcast commercial-free.”
Week long
Well, commercial-free will definitely not happen, says TV authority Tina Nijkamp. She was at the helm of SBS 6 for years and indicates that Arjen’s transfer simply has to be recouped.
It is possible that RTL will grant him a week of commercial-free so that everyone can get used to the new situation, she says in her podcast Tina’s TV Update. “I suspect that he may be allowed to start the first week without commercial breaks, but from week two onwards money must of course be made.”
And then there will be a break in his program, she decides.
