New contract? Rome apparently wants to keep Hummels

Mats Hummels starts at AS Roma. His contract runs until this summer – the chances of an extension are probably good.
When Mats Hummels came to AS Roma at the beginning of September last year, he had to wait a long time for his first appearance. And even after his debut against Florence (1:5), the former BVB star had to be patient again before he was allowed to play again. Now he was in the starting line-up for the third time in a row in the 2-0 derby win against Lazio – and, according to Italian media reports, the Romans now even want to extend the central defender’s working paper.
Accordingly, Dan Friedkin, the US owner, is pushing to renew the contract, which expires in the summer. Under coach Claudio Ranieri, Hummels has recently consolidated his place in the starting eleven and the 2014 world champion is now one of the top performers. Ranieri himself recently described Hummels as a “monument” and “indispensable for me.”
The Italian media also praised the 36-year-old. The “Gazzetta dello Sport” wrote: “Hummels inspires AS Roma. The club wants to keep Mats for another year.” “Corriere dello Sport” also spoke of a “gladiator of the team, coach Ranieri has publicly requested his contract extension for next season”.
