National basketball player Satou Sabally has announced that she will no longer play for the Dallas Wings in the WNBA.
“I’ve already played my last game for Dallas“Said Sabally in a media round on Thursday. She also told the Wings how grateful she was.”They have given me a home here for the past few years and I am working with them to find a new home for myself“, the 26-year-old was quoted by the portal “The Athletic WBB”. From January she will initially compete in the new 3×3 league “Unrivaled”, in the WNBA she is without a contract.
The Berliner was selected second by Dallas in the 2020 WNBA draft. Last year she only played 15 games for Dallas because of the Olympics and preparation for the tournament in Paris. Overall, she averaged 15.7 points, seven rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Wings.
Sabally finished last season with Dallas in eleventh and penultimate place in the WNBA and missed the playoffs.
Duel between WNBA champions Nyara Sabally and Leonie Fiebich in the Euroleague
Her younger sister Nyara Sabally won the title in the US professional league together with her DBB teammate Leonie Fiebich and New York Liberty. Now the German WNBA champions faced each other in the Euroleague: Nyara Sabally and defending champion Fenerbahce Istanbul beat Fiebich and Valencia BC 92:56 (44:26) on Wednesday evening. Nyara Sabally scored eleven points in 13:40 minutes against Valencia, while Fiebich (22:09) recorded six points.
Fenerbahce has won all seven games so far in the second group stage and will play for the title in the newly introduced Final Six tournament in April in Zaragoza, Spain. Istanbul won the Euroleague crown in 2023 and 2024. With the victory, the Turkish Klib also booked his ticket to the final tournament.
The two national players and Olympic participants joined European teams for the break in the WNBA, like many other professionals from North America. Nyara Sabally (24) is following in the footsteps of her older sister Satou; the 26-year-old played for Fener from 2020 to 2023 and, among other things, triumphed with the club in the premier class EuroLeague in 2023.
