Russian athletes Maxim Kovtun and Yevgenia Levanova have separated only a year after their wedding, Sport-Express news.
Levanova, 24, is a five-time world champion in rhythmic gymnastics, and Kovtu, 29, is a three-time European medalist in figure skating.
The couple started dating in 2018. Their relationship has been in the headlines in Russia because of Levanova’s spending.
Last spring, the gymnast made comments on social media that caused her followers to get upset.
– I spend all my money on myself. Maxim is responsible for all of our common everyday expenses, she said at the time.
Fans sent Levanova an avalanche of criticism and a furious discussion started on social media around the hot couple.
Kovtun announced the divorce in a YouTube video of Russian musician T-killah. T-killah, real name Alexander Tarasovperforms with Kovtun in the same ice show.
– Are you divorced by the way? Tarasov asks in the video.
– When you publish this, then I will probably be, Kovtun replies.
