The organization of the National Cyclocross Championships at the Nijstad recreational lake has won the Hoogevener of the Year 2024 prize. According to the jury, the event has put Hoogeveen positively on the map nationally.
Hundreds of visitors came to watch the cycling race through the mud in January 2024. To manage this properly, a lot of manpower and tight planning are required. The jury believes they have succeeded: “A unique event”.
A total of three finalists had a chance to win the prize. The Historical Circle and wheelchair hockey player Tim Heere were the other two nominees.
The prize is awarded every year. The previous winner was the organization of the City Light Festival in Hoogeveen. They took over at the time from political reporter Merel Ek of Hart van Nederland, who comes from Hoogeveen.
