The Superior Sports Council gave the provisional green light a few hours before the start of the Super Cup match between the Blaugrana and Athletic Bilbao. The two players are not even on the bench and await the eventual final
The government lends a hand to Barcelona. The Consejo Superior de Deportes, the operational arm of the Ministry of Sport, has granted Barcelona the ‘cautelarísima’ to let Dani Olmo and Pau Victor play, whose names have been removed from La Liga from the list of Barcelona players since January 1st. It is not a definitive ruling: the CSD says that they will speak with La Liga and the Football Federation to make the final decision, but it will take months rather than weeks, and in the meantime Barcelona’s only two summer signings can go on the pitch. Not today. Barcelona is playing the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup with Athletic Bilbao in Jeddah and the two are not on the list, but they could be in the possible final on Sunday.
shocking decision
—
Now let’s see how the other clubs react: “It is a decision taken by a political body and it is a shocking, monstrous decision – Jon Uriarte, president of Athletic Bilbao, told Movistar bluntly before the match – The other clubs must respect strict rules and then these things happen.”
IMMEDIATE HAPPINESS
—
Joan Laporta’s reaction is equally sensational: the Barcelona president didn’t know there was a camera around and when he received the news he started celebrating wildly, with shouts, jumping and the umbrella gesture included. Then Blaugrana sporting director Deco went on TV: “I’m happy for the players, they’ve been difficult days. We are satisfied because they proved us right and that is the most important thing. The president of Athletic? He has to worry about his club, not Barcelona.” The war was served.
the four did not
—
We recall that Barcelona had received 4 no’s to its request to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, from a mercantile court, from a court of first instance, from La Liga and from the Football Federation. Everyone had believed that the Camp Nou club had violated the rules of financial fairplay relating to the wage bill, those rules referred to by the Athletic president. The government helped Barça, but the story is not over.
