The police are investigating gross embezzlement, entrepreneur council Kirsti Paakkanen in an inheritance dispute, Ilta-Sanomat news.

In addition to the new crime, the police have previously investigated two counts of forgery and one count of fraud. IS says that one person is suspected of all four serious crimes, who, according to the police’s suspicion, would have forged Paakkanen’s will and embezzled his funds for himself without permission.

Paakkanen, who founded Marimekko in 1991 and brought the company to prosperity, died in November 2021. He was 92 years old.

Paakkasen had neither children nor spouse when he died. In his latest addition to his will, he assigned his entire property to Kirsti Paakkanen’s foundation.

Before his death, Paakkanen said publicly that he intended to bequeath his fortune to “Finland’s talented children”.

– When I come from a poor home, and I was treated well in this country as a child, I owe this country a debt of love, commented Paakkanen to Iltalehti in 2017.

Based on Paakkanen’s latest wills, the relatives were left without a cent. His niece Regina Panala has challenged the authenticity of the will and filed a criminal complaint. In September, the prosecutor Mikko Jalonen told Iltalehte that the investigation has been prolonged because the police have constantly received more material from Paanala.

According to IS, the latest criminal title is also based on the material provided to the police by Paanala.
