An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck Shigatse, Tibet’s second largest city, on Tuesday morning. This was reported by the American Seismological Institute (USGS). Eight more quakes followed, six of which occurred within an hour of the first. Tibet is an autonomous region in southern China on the border with Nepal. The AFP news agency reports, based on Chinese state and local media, that at least 36 people have already died in the earthquake.
