Jeff Baena was found dead in his home in Los Angeles on Friday, January 3, 2025. The screenwriter, director and husband of actress Aubrey Plaza was 47 years old. Now the cause of death has been made public.

On the morning of January 3, Baena was discovered lifeless by his assistant at his mansion near the Hollywood Hills. The police were only able to determine the death of the US filmmaker. What exactly happened was not initially disclosed. Now Deadline has reported that Jeff Baena committed suicide by hanging.

The indie director, born in Miami, graduated from NYU Film School in New York before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his career. His works, which he not only wrote but also directed, include “Joshy” (2016), “Horse Girl” (2020) and the 2022 film “Spin Me Around”.
Marriage to Aubrey Plaza
He also met Aubrey Plaza in 2011 on the set of his work “Life After Beth”. In 2021, the couple married in a spontaneous event. In an interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Plaza revealed that it was a somewhat unplanned wedding during the Corona lockdown. “I don’t remember a lot of it, it was blurry, but I’m pretty sure it’s legal,” Plaza said.
