Despite the 28 points of the Italian champion, Vero Volley loses against the Piedmontese. Imoco struggled in the first set but continued their unbeaten streak
Six matches to close the sixteenth day of the women’s Serie A1, which opened yesterday with the victory of Scandicci. The spotlight is on Novara, where the hosts win the direct clash against Milan, for whom a super Paola Egonu is not enough. Conegliano loses the first set against Roma but finds yet another success of the season. Important victory also for Bergamo in Latisana.
BUSTO-VALLEFOGLIA 3-1 (25-11, 17-25, 25-16, 29-27)
—
Busto returns to victory, taking his sixth consecutive success at home, where he only lost against Bergamo three months ago. The 3-1 against Vallefoglia leaves an 8-point mark on the Marche team, eighth. Nice start for the butterflies, then the guests go up together with Lee (returning today). But the home attack, efficient and effective, and a stellar Obossa in the fourth set (8 points, including a fundamental ace in the excited final) direct the challenge. For Megabox, too much effort in attack (despite the reception) and block-defense not always up to par, but Lee’s return is good news.
Bust: Obossa 16 points, Muri team 11 (Van Avermaet 4), Ace team 7 (Obossa 3).
Vallefoglia: Bike 15 points, Muri team 6, Ace team 5.
CUNEO-PINEROLO 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-19)
—
Fundamental success in terms of salvation for Cuneo, which with the 3-0 against Pinerolo (without Smarzek, affected by flu), leaves the last place in the standings, overcoming Talmassons and Roma in one fell swoop. Superlative start for the girls, thanks to 18/24 in attack in the first set. In the second half Wash4Green responds, leading up to 18-22 and wasting a set point, but Polder and Martinez (MVP) lead the comeback. The inertia remains with the locals who close easily thanks to the block dominance (10-0), against a Pinerolo who are too inconsistent in every phase of the game.
Wedge: Bjelica 15 points, Muri team 10 (Polder 6), Ace team 4.
Pinerolo: Moreno Reyes 13 points, Muri team 0, Ace team 3.
NOVARA-MILANO 3-2 (19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 23-25, 15-12)
—
Novara wins the big match of the day, overcoming Milan in the tiebreak as in the first leg and consolidating third place in the standings. The guests started better, with Igor making a lot of mistakes and above all failing to contain Egonu. But the Piedmontese respond by finding the incisiveness in their serve that breaks down the opponent’s offensive efficiency. Numia collapses in the second set and recovers in the third, but with the usual Egonu she reaches the tiebreaker. Novara, however, is more solid and less fouled, and led by an excellent Tolok (MVP) takes its sixth victory in a row. For Milan, a good blocking performance, but the attack was too discontinuous.
Novara: Tolok 26 points, Muri team 10, Ace team 8 (Ishikawa 3).
Milan: Egonu 28 points, Muri team 15 (Heyrman 5, Egonu 4), Ace team 5.
Conegliano – Roma 3-1 (19-25, 25-12, 25-22, 26-24)
—
Prosecco Doc wins, with difficulty, against a never-tame Smi Roma who managed to win a set at the Panthers’ home. First set where the Capitolines manage to escape and maintain the advantage. In the second, Santarelli’s champions, who initially kept Haak at rest, returned to their usual rhythm, destroying the Roman sextet, but in the third and fourth sets there was a real battle on the pitch. Orvosova scored 20 points, Lanier (Mvp) 17. In the fourth Chirichella made the only 2 blocks of the match for Conegliano, which were decisive for the result, given that the advantages were achieved. Very good for Roma, who didn’t give up until the last ball in the most difficult away match of the championship, even risking taking home points. For Imoco another victory and first place with full points.
Conegliano: Lanier 17 points, team blocks 2, team aces 8 (3 Adigwe)
Rome: Orvosova 20 points, team blocks 8 (4 Rucli), team Ace 2
Talmassons – Bergamo 0-3 (22-25, 14-25, 15-25)
—
Bergamo passes without problems to Latisana, taking a clear victory in a match without history. Cese Montalvo puts in yet another over the top performance (MVP and top scorer, 80% in reception and 50% in attack), leading the Orobic team to 3-0. Parisi’s team flies in the standings at 30, remaining in Milan’s wake. For the Friulians, a paltry 29% in attack and 11 points from Storck are the summary of a subdued match compared to usual.
Talmasons: Storck 11 points, team blocks 4, team aces 1
Bergamo: Cese Montalvo 20 points, team blocks 5, team aces 3
Florence – Chieri 1-3 (22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 20-25)
—
Chieri conquers Palazzo Wanny with a three-point victory. The approach to the match was good for both sextets, but Florence’s too many errors (31, of which 16 on serve) were certainly decisive. Great performance by Alberti (Mvp) and Gicquel for the Piedmontese, while Malual, Nervini and Baijens stood out for Florence. Chieri strengthens its position in the standings reaching 29th, just one point behind Bergamo. For Florence, given the defeats of Perugia, Roma and Talmassons, tenth place remains safe.
Florence: Malual 18 points, team blocks 5, team aces. 4
Chieri: Alberti 15 points, team blocks 14 (5 Gray), team aces 7
