There was a cracking duel between Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League. The game was heated – and demanded everything from the “Reds”.
Liverpool FC lost a prestigious win against rivals Manchester United. The “Reds” turned the northwest derby in the English Premier League into a 2-1 after being behind, but in the end they had to settle for a 2-2 (0-0).
With a six point lead over pursuers Arsenal FC, Liverpool remains confidently at the top of the table. For Man United, the draw was a success after four competitive defeats in a row.
The Argentinian Lisandro Martínez (52nd minute) initially gave the guests the lead, but the deficit woke up the previously lethargic favorite. The in-form Cody Gakpo (59th) and Mohamed Salah (70th/hand penalty) gave Liverpool the lead.
Former Bayern star Matthijs de Ligt had previously clearly touched the ball with his hand in his own box. Referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot after video evidence (VAR). United’s Amad Diallo (80th) managed to equalize for the “Red Devils” shortly before the end.
England’s new national coach Thomas Tuchel was also in the stands watching the highly entertaining game in the second half. Due to the snowfall in the Liverpool area during the day, the game was expected to be canceled. But after two security meetings it was decided that the game at Anfield could go ahead as planned.
At least for the players there were no major restrictions – apart from the rain that started to fall – because many hard-working helpers had cleared the snow from the lawn with shovels before kick-off.
