It happened again on Saturday night at coffee shop Caza on the Gasthuisring in Tilburg. It appears that another explosive device, or at least something burning, has been thrown at the building. In any case, you can see that the front door of the coffee shop is blackened. A spokesperson for the municipality of Tilburg confirmed on Sunday morning that the coffee shop had been attacked for the tenth time.
The police did not want to speak of an attack earlier on Sunday. A spokesperson did indicate that a fire was reported around a quarter past four on Sunday night.
“We just can’t figure out who or what is behind the series of attacks,” Mayor Weterings responded through his spokesperson on Sunday. “And that leads to annoyance.” Reason for the triangle – Public Prosecution Service, police and mayor – to meet again next week about the situation around Caza.
It was also busy at the coffee shop on Friday night. Then an explosive device was thrown at the building. This didn’t work then. Then two security guards stood at the door of the coffee shop, one of them was hit by the explosive.
The thrown object turned out to be a bottle of flammable liquid with an explosive attached to it. If it had gone off, the security guards would “certainly have been injured, or worse,” according to police. After Friday night’s attack, Caza had to close for a month by order of the mayor. “A closure is not a punitive measure against the owner, but rather in the interest of local residents to restore public order and safety,” emphasizes the spokesperson for the municipality of Tilburg.

The coffee shop has been the target of attacks many times before. Last November, the business reopened its doors after eight previous attacks. Including the two attacks this weekend, the count now stands at ten.
Local residents were already uneasy about it when it reopened in November. But the owner of coffee shop Caza was hopeful that things would remain quiet. A safety plan had been drawn up together with the municipality. An important condition was that security would be present 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
