For the away match, the players moved into a hotel on Lake Como, where Feijenoord and the Dutch national team had previously stayed. The stay immediately provided some nice anecdotes. One of them was about Jan Jongbloed and Frits Flinkevlieg, who went fishing along the lake while the rest of the team was training hard. In any case, Flinkevlieg was often the center of strong stories, such as the time he entered the dressing room just before a match in a Sinterklaas suit.
“In the dressing room, until the warm-up started, we had a lot of fun,” says Jongbloed. “The trainer would sometimes say: ‘Come on, boys. Can’t we be a little more serious?’ But on the field it was over my body.”
