Liverpool trembles against Inter Milan in the quarterfinals

Jürgen Klopp has reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with Liverpool. The German coach managed to advance to the next round with the “Reds” against Inter Milan.

Team manager Jürgen Klopp has reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the fourth time in his seventh year at Liverpool FC. In the second leg against Inter Milan, however, the Reds had to tremble again: In the end, a 0-1 (0-0) defeat at Anfield Road was enough because the Premier League club had won the first leg at the Italian champions 2-0.

Lautaro Martinez gave the visitors hope again with a dream goal in the 61st minute. Two minutes later, however, Alexis Sanchez did Inter’s efforts a disservice when he was sent off with a second yellow card. National player Robin Gosens did not play for Milan after a long injury break.

Klopp switched

Klopp did without 50 million euro new signing Luis Diaz and captain Jordan Henderson in the starting XI, but his team still had everything under control after initial problems. Only the goal was missing: Ex-Schalke player Joel Matip headed to the crossbar, a few seconds later the second central defender Virgil van Dijk also failed with a header (31st). The England international Trent Alexander-Arnold shone as a preparer.

Even after the break, the 2019 premier class winner was initially the dominant team, superstar Mohamed Salah (52nd) hit the post. When Martinez hit right in the corner, things got exciting again. Salah hit the post again (73′), in injury time former Bayern player Arturo Vidal saved for Inter when substitute Diaz shot.

Two series broke for Liverpool: After twelve competitive wins in a row, the table second in the Premier League lost feathers for the first time. In addition, the Klopp team missed the eighth win in the eighth Champions League game of the season. So far, only FC Barcelona (2002/03) and Bayern Munich (2019/20) have managed this feat.
