Christmas is over, the Christmas tree is being taken out of the house again. Residents of the municipality of Tynaarlo received a notification that the municipality will not collect discarded Christmas trees this year.
But what should you do with your Christmas tree? Seven tips:
Of course, plant that Christmas tree in your garden and take it down in a year and put it back in your living room. Of course, this only applies to a tree with a root ball. This way you can get a Christmas tree in your home very cheaply every year. The condition is that you have a back or front garden with room for a fir tree.
No room in the garden? Or does it not fit in? No problem, the Christmas tree can be very useful. Cut off the branches and use them as insulation material. Several plants in the garden do not like frost. Cover them with the green branches and they will probably survive the winter.
Christmas may be over, but the green branches of a Christmas tree are great decoration material. Use them to make bouquets, put them in a vase or place them on a windowsill.
Christmas is of course over, so you might want to keep the remains of the Christmas tree out of sight. But that smell in the house during the days around Christmas was wonderful, because those pine needles smell so good.
Maybe you have those scented sachets in the toilet containing lavender, for example. Why not buy a bag like this and fill it with pine needles and bits of twigs? You bet it smells nice and fresh.
Pine needle tea, does it sound strange? Not at all. In fact, you can also buy pine needle tea in some stores. Then why not make it yourself? The men of wild camping do it in the wild. They break off some twigs, put them in a teapot and bring it to the boil. The smaller the branch, the better the taste. And if you break them in half, it provides more flavor.
Let the tea steep for about twenty minutes. Then strain out the needles and you have real pine tea.
You don’t like that pine tea? Are you done with pine needles in your house and is that potpourri with pine scent not for you? Then cut that tree into small pieces and throw it in the green container. A big advantage at this time of year is that the container is usually not full of vegetable, fruit and garden waste.
Well, not everyone has their own organic waste container. Or maybe your wheelie bin is completely full these days. The solution? Put that tree in the back of your car and take it to the dump. You can hand in your green waste for free at most recycling centers. Not? Then you undoubtedly have a certain amount of kilos that you can hand in for free. There is a good chance that you have not yet exceeded that maximum weight at the beginning of the year.
