I have cancer.
López Otín began a conference, which I attended, with the following instruction to those present: “Look first at whoever is on your right and then at whoever is on your left. One of us or you will end up getting cancer.”
In reality, the brilliant researcher, and admirable popularizer, was telling us that one in three people would end up having cancer throughout their lives. I hope that my two seat neighbors were spared from that conference because it was my turn.
And also in the pancreas, which is not exactly the lightest. This fact will force me to relax my political activity, to take life more calmly, to cultivate the friendships that I really appreciate and to thank my family for all the care that the illness will bring to them as well.
Above all, Luisa, my wife and devoted companion. When they told us the diagnosis last Thursday, she was more shocked than I was, at first. Shortly after, she had taken control of the problem, becoming a nurse as diligent as she was helpful and attentive. This cancer has now become a matter for both of us. And she is the best support I could ask for. So there we are going to manage this situation together.
I will take advantage of this Facebook page to comment on my impressions. Not only political, as until now, but also vital and personal memories.
A cordial greeting to all of you who follow me.
