A friendly atmosphere this evening, but not exuberant, is how a visitor describes the fireworks show this evening to AT5. “A few people were counting down just like New Year’s Eve.”

The weather forecast was good tonight and therefore the fireworks show could go ahead. This is in contrast to the fireworks shows in the city during New Year’s Eve, when there were four were cancelled because of the strong gusts of wind. Only the show on Museumplein, which was largely electric, could go ahead.

Preparation

When it became known that the show in Weesp could not go ahead, the purchased fireworks were temporarily packed and stored. “If the show had not been able to take place at all, all the fireworks would have had to be destroyed, so the costs would have already been incurred anyway,” the municipality said.

Preparations for the fireworks show started this afternoon. Parking on Hoogstraat, between Kerkstraat and Sluisbrug, was therefore temporarily not possible between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
