The mayor of Reusel-De Mierden has closed a house on the Molenakkers in Reusel. On New Year’s Eve, illegal fireworks were set off in the front yard of that house. The fireworks pot that fell over caused an explosion. Four people were injured.

The fireworks accident happened on Tuesday evening around a quarter past ten. The fireworks pot hit the house from where the illegal fireworks were set off. The blast also caused havoc at neighbors’ homes. Several cars were also damaged.

One of the bystanders was seriously injured and had to be treated by a trauma helicopter. Two others were taken to hospital by ambulance. The fourth was slightly injured.

The police discovered more heavy, illegal fireworks in several cars. Because people were injured, a criminal investigation has been launched. The mayor closed the building where the illegal fireworks were set off on Friday morning.

It is unclear why and for how long the house was closed. The municipality was not immediately available for explanation on Friday.
