Mainz 05 has given homegrown player Daniel Gleiber a professional contract. The 19-year-old midfielder was part of the successful U19 team led by Brajan Gruda and Nelson Weiper, which became A-youth champions in 2022/23. He now has a licensed player contract with the Zero Five professionals until 2028.
“Daniel has absolutely earned this contract with strong performances in the U19, including in the Youth League, as well as in the U23. He is a very talented and good boy who leads his teams and wears the captain’s armband. Daniel, who has been training with us since the U16, has made great development, so we give him the trust to be able to take the next steps towards the professional squad, with which he already trains regularly,” said sports director Niko Bungert.
In the current season, Gleiber played twelve games (one goal, two assists) for the Mainz regional league team and made his debut in the 2nd round of the DFB Cup in a 4-0 defeat against FC Bayern. He was part of the squad five times in the Bundesliga, but was not used.
