Robert Smith has revealed two song titles that will appear on The Cure’s next album.

In the program “X-Posure” with John Kennedy on “Radio This work will be the successor to the band’s 14th studio album SONGS OF A LOST WORLD, which was released in 2024.

From “Christmas Without You” to “It Can Never Be The Same”

In the interview with Kennedy, Smith explains that the next record will contain some completely new songs, but also some that have already been performed live by the band but never made it onto an album.

According to the singer, among other things, the song “It Can Never Be The Same” will probably finally be on the record. The track was previously called “Christmas Without You” and has been played live by the band for a long time.

“I think this song will be on the next album because it’s about time,” explains the 65-year-old. “When I first wrote it it was about my mother’s death, but it has changed over the years and become a really powerful live song.” The singer told NME that the song is one of 13 was the “leftover” of their 2008 album 4:13 DREAM, which was supposed to be released as part of a companion album but was never completed.

According to Smith, it won’t be a lighthearted album

In general, Smith says that, lyrically speaking, the next album is far from a cheerful “upbeat album”. In addition to the heartbreak song “It Can Never Be The Same,” Smith talks about another track: “A Boy I Never Knew.” “I think it’ll probably make it on the album,” he said. “It’s a sad song, but in a completely different way. There I am singing about a boy who died a million years ago. About the death of humanity before it began, I think… or something.”

With SONGS OF A LOST WORLD, The Cure scored their first number one album in the UK in 32 years, and was also the band’s first since 2008’s 4:13 DREAM album.
