De Horinees will become part of head coach Robin van Persie’s staff in Friesland. The two know each other from their time with the Dutch national team. Hoek worked for Oranje in four periods. He attended the 2014 World Cup and the 2022 World Cup with Louis van Gaal as national coach and joined Leo Beenhakker’s staff with Poland in 2006. At SC Heerenveen he also works again with goalkeeper Andries Noppert, who was under the bar for the Dutch team during the 2022 World Cup.
Hoek started his career at Always Forward in Hoorn. In 1973 he made his breakthrough in professional football at FC Volendam, where he would play goalkeeper for twelve years. He then started working at Ajax as a goalkeeper coach. He subsequently worked at the very top at FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Galatasaray, among others.

At Heerenveen, Hoek succeeds Harmen Kuperus, who was suspended at the end of the morning. In the past, De Fries played as a goalkeeper for Telstar and FC Volendam.
