Separation at the end of 2023
“It was an absurd situation”: Vollmann talks about Eintracht’s exit

Peter Vollmann spent many years at Eintracht Braunschweig as a coach, sports director and managing director. He had to leave at the end of 2023 – and is now talking about the separation.
At Eintracht Braunschweig, Peter Vollmann was controversial, especially towards the end of his term in office. They finally parted ways in November 2023. The sports director came under massive criticism, not least because of his squad policy.
Now – a little more than a year later – the now 67-year-old has spoken about his departure from Eintracht. “It was a bitter farewell,” he says in an interview with the “Braunschweiger Zeitung” and is not happy with the way the separation happened.
“I would have preferred my retirement from active working life differently,” he adds. “I still had plans and would have liked to help Eintracht in another role today.”
Vollmann had led the BTSV in 2002 – at that time as a coach – from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga, and from the end of 2002 he was on the sidelines for Preußen Münster, Holstein Kiel and Hansa Rostock, among others. In 2019 he returned to Eintracht as sports director and was even promoted to sports director in 2020.
During his time as an official in Braunschweig, there were two further promotions to the 2nd Bundesliga (2020 and 2022) and a relegation to the third division. However, under Vollmann, Eintracht never got beyond their status as relegation candidates in League Two.
That’s why you have to accept the end in the end, says Vollmann. The only thing that disappointed him was how he dealt with him. The supervisory board had agreed on the separation for a long time and delayed the announcement for weeks, says Vollmann. “I was allowed to put my things together, but I still had to get to work. I really wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It was an absurd situation.”
