In the 1990s, Wolfgang “Teddy” de Beer celebrated several titles with BVB. Even after his career he worked for black and yellow. Now he died unexpectedly.
Mourning for Wolfang “Teddy” de Beer: As Borussia Dortmund announced on New Year’s Day, the long-time goalkeeper and BVB employee died “suddenly and unexpectedly” shortly before the turn of the year. De Beer was only 60 years old.
“The Borussia family is shocked and deeply sad. We will all always honor his memory,” the club said in a statement. “Teddy was one of the good ones. On the pitch, but especially off the pitch. A man you can touch. Deeply grounded. With his pulse, his heart and his full attention, always very close to people,” the club remembers him long-time player.
De Beer moved to BVB from Duisburg in 1986 at the age of 22 – and never left the club. He played more than 200 games for Borussia, winning, among other things, two championships, a Champions League and a DFB Cup.
He ended his professional career in 2001 but remained loyal to the club. He worked as a goalkeeping coach at the club until 2018, training and further training Roman Weidenfeller and Roman Büro under coaches such as Jürgen Klopp, Matthias Sammer and Thomas Tuchel, among others, and thus made his contribution to a title-rich period for Dortmund.
After a total of 17 years as a goalkeeping coach, de Beer moved to another position in 2018, becoming the club’s fan representative. Given his great popularity among BVB fans, this is an understandable decision. He carried out this activity until the end. He would have celebrated his 61st birthday tomorrow, Thursday.
