It was the most viewed photo of the entire Olympics: Gabriel Medina literally flying over the waters of Tahiti after catching an almost perfect wave, 9.90 out of 10 total. It has become the photo of the Paris Gamesperhaps the photo of the year, despite the fact that in the end the Brazilian came “only” third, after having dominated the tournament until a semi-final in which – surprised by the sea conditions – he was beaten by Jack Robinson, who in turn was defeated in final by Olympic gold medalist Kauli Vaast. Yet, even more than the winner, history will remember above all the flight of Gabriel Medina.
