The Argentine took the lead at the start of the match and the draw after the comeback signed by Sarr-Tengstedt and the red card to Pobega. In the final, the own goal from Duda’s cross
Fatal Verona. Bologna needed more concreteness to beat the Venetians. Instead it ends 2-3. The only standing ovation goes to Dominguez: Dall’Ara stands up all for him. Double, creativity, imagination, play. Bravo. It’s a Bologna that wastes too much, that makes a lot of mistakes. And to complicate things on a sour night there was also Pobega, sent off for a score-settlement with Duda with a far ball at the start of the second half. Lucumi isn’t doing well either. From there Zanetti clings to the waiting game waiting for the right opportunity. Right move, given the coup of the Veronese away team, who thus rise to +4 from the relegation zone.
MANY ERRORS
—
What might have seemed like an obvious match turned out to be a tough and complex match for Bologna. Too many bad opportunities, too many mistakes. And that Verona already on the ropes recovers after a handful of seconds. But for most of the first half it was Bologna’s solo. Especially Fabbian and his electric and snappy football. The first minutes of the former Pisa player are made up of suggestions, crosses and a free kick (in the 6th minute) which ends up on the wall. Not bad, Bologna has the shot in the works. If Odgaard’s header ends up high (18′), the young Argentinian scion Dominguez has a very different fate. In the 20th minute you want a rebound, you want a carom, you want a shot, an assist with a header (Castro), the ball lands at Benji’s feet. The rest is a lot of stuff: half a serpentine and a right-footed shot that takes the lead, 1-0. But the idea that Bologna can manage without problems is an illusion. Verona loses Lazovic (muscle knockout), Bradaric comes on. Meanwhile, Bologna comes close to scoring an encore with Odgaard, but the ball ends up on the outside post (35′). Everything reignites 2′ later when a short pass from Lucumi falls to Tengstedt. There is a motorway ahead and the passage to Sarr is as delightful as it is generous. For the yellow-blue nine it’s easy: just put it in, 1-1. The rossoblù fury deflates like a soufflé in the 47th minute when Bradaric connects Serdar, Tengstedt’s touch is beautiful and the Dane’s conclusion is lethal: Verona doubles, score reversed.
POBEGA NO
—
It gets even worse in the second half. After 6′ Duda and Pobega meet. With a distant ball the rossoblù midfielder hits the Verona defender in the face and gets the red card (confirmed after a long check). Down by one goal and one man, it becomes very tough for the rossoblù. Italiano’s team needs a flash. The award-winning Odgaard-Dominguez team throws it in the 13th minute: the first hits the post from a free kick, the other puts in the rebound which makes it 2-2. Once again tied, Bologna returns to attack with a certain conviction. Castro protects the balls in the area. Instead Odgaard tries poisonous shots. See the one in the 20th minute dived away by a good Montipò. The inferiority forces Italiano to manage the substitutions with more attention, but the more minutes pass, the more Bologna’s clarity drops. Only Dominguez’s creativity seems to be able to break the deadlock. His, again, the good shot in the 30th minute with Montipò still super to put it in the corner. Ndoye is also in at the end. The Swiss immediately looks for a lightning move which however has no consequences. Duda’s free kick 2′ from the end has a lot of them: the trajectory ends up rebounding off Castro’s chest and the ball rolls into the net. It’s 2-3 that ends the match.
