Selina Freitag won the qualification for the opening competition of the Two Nights Tour in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Successful debut for Selina Friday in the Two Night Tour: The fourth place in the World Cup jumped to 132.5 meters and secured victory with 137.8 points in the qualification for the opening competition on New Year’s Eve in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
“I’m really satisfied” said Friday after her jump: “I had good training and got off to a good start here in Garmisch. I knew that if I continued like this, the quality would be quite good. I hope that this continues.”
The Norwegian Eirin Maria Kvandal came in second (135/136.7). Defending champion Nika Prevc finished the qualification in third place (127.5/135.8). Close behind, Katharina Schmid took fourth place. The overall World Cup leader jumped to 125.5 meters and ended up with 134.1 points.
Richly surprised
Agnes Reich caused a little surprise: the 25-year-old jumped to 136 meters. That was enough for ninth place (129.7 points), after which the attempt was shortened. Juliane Seyfarth came in 14th with 124.5 meters (115.8). Alvine Holz (118/99.4) also qualified for the jumping on Tuesday in 27th place.
The New Year’s Eve jumping starts at 4:20 p.m. (stream and ticker). The second part of the event, which is a kind of half Four Hills Tournament, will take place on New Year’s Day in Oberstdorf.
Schmid: “Jumping in front of your own audience is something very special”
“Jumping at home, in front of your own audience and friends and family who are also down below, is something very special,” said Schmid from Oberstdorf, who has achieved three first and two second places in a total of five competitions this season.
The World Cups held as part of the so-called Two Nights Tour are considered a replacement for the own Four Hills Tournament, for which the women still have to wait. At the first event last year, the Slovenian Nika Prevc secured overall victory. In Garmisch, the female jumpers hold their competition immediately after qualifying for the men’s tournament jumping.
