Leganés loan before cancellation

From FC Utrecht, Sébastien Haller (30) once made the jump to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. If the striker, who is currently on loan to Spain from BVB, has his way, he will now return to his former club after seven and a half years – if Dortmund plays along.

At least at the moment it seems certain that Haller will not stay in Spain; at least not at CD Leganés. “Marca” reported a few days ago that negotiations were underway to end the loan early. The LaLiga club had originally agreed a season-long contract with BVB. If Haller returns to Dortmund early, staying with the black and yellow is also hardly realistic. Haller’s wish should be clear.

One “VIAccording to a report, Haller clearly stated that he wanted to go to FC Utrecht in order to revive his career. However, the financial aspects still need to be clarified. In terms of sport, things are currently looking promising for the Domstedelingen. Only the reigning title holders PSV Eindhoven and record champions Ajax Amsterdam are ahead of Utrecht in the table, which last reached the group stage of the Europa League in 2010/11. Third place would mean participation in the Champions League qualification this season.

Haller comeback in Utrecht? 51 goals in three seasons

With Haller’s first commitment, people in Utrecht had good experiences not only in terms of sport but also financially. After a purchase price of 750,000 euros and 51 goals by the Ivorian in three seasons, the selling price was 12 million euros. Haller went to Frankfurt, made his breakthrough there too and ended up in the Premier League at West Ham, later at Ajax, then in Dortmund, where he was diagnosed with cancer, which abruptly interrupted the goalscorer’s career.

In Utrecht they hope to be able to see Haller back to his old strength and finally bring clarity to the volatile storm center. To date, Frankfurt’s loan player Paxten Aaronson (21) from the attacking midfield and winger Miguel Rodríguez (21, on loan from Celta Vigo) have contributed the most goals in the team. Both contributed five goals and three assists in all competitions. The most dangerous center forwards so far have been David Min (25) and former Leipzig player Noah Ohio (21) with four goals each. Ohio is also out due to injury.

So there is a great chance for Haller to be able to show his goal threat again. In Spain he only had the opportunity to do so in 525 minutes of action spread over nine games; mostly between mid-September and the end of October. Since then he has mostly sat on the bench. He didn’t manage a goal or an assist. Haller should have found his old strength again in Leganés after the previous season at BVB also went badly. Due to injuries and international absences, there were 19 appearances with 524 minutes, three goals and one assist. The contract in Dortmund is valid until 2026.
