Simon Ammann missed qualifying for the competition in Oberstdorf at the start of the 73rd Four Hills Tournament. As the Swiss Ski Association officially confirmed in a statement, the four-time Olympic champion is now canceling the season highlight early.
“After qualifying for the opening competition in Oberstdorf, Simon Ammann will cancel the Four Hills Tournament. He has decided this together with the coaching team. Instead, he will do a training block at home and concentrate on the rest of the season,” the Swiss Ski Association said briefly on Sunday and just with.
Ammann had narrowly missed out on making it into the 50-strong starting field for the first competition of the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf due to an ungrateful 51st place in the qualification. The Swiss will no longer be competing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.
Ammann is denied triumph at the Four Hills Tournament
Ammann had already made his debut at the Four Hills Tournament in December 1997. However, the 43-year-old was never able to win the Golden Eagle during his extremely successful career. With four gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games and the overall World Cup victory in the 2009/10 season, the Swiss’ CV also boasts great successes.
It is currently unclear how long Ammann will remain active in ski jumping. The veteran emphasized to “Blick” in November that he wanted to initially concentrate on the current winter.
The 73rd Four Hills Tournament continues with the qualification for jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. in the live ticker on sport.de) further. On New Year’s Day (2 p.m. in the live ticker on sport.de) it’s all about important points again in the race for overall victory.
The Austrian Stefan Kraft won the start in Oberstdorf.
