Without a future in Berlin

It was already true after last season: Bilal Hussein (24) has no future at Hertha BSC. Since then, the situation has only become more entrenched. Without playing a minute in the 2nd Bundesliga, the Swede could apparently get his career back on track in Belgium. Beerschot VA is said to be negotiating a transfer of the midfielder, as reporter Sacha Tavolieri reports. As things stand, the bottom of the Pro League table cannot make any transfers at all.
Beerschot has been banned from transferring by the Belgian Football Association because of unpaid debts, as the club itself admitted. The Antwerp team explained that the required amount had already been paid in by the club’s shareholder a few days ago. Because of the holidays, the transfer could only be processed on Friday. As a result, it was previously not possible for De Mannekes to pass on the money. It is assumed that the debt will be paid on Monday and the receipts can then be sent to the association’s registration office. Then the transfer ban could be lifted again.
Herthas Hussein could then have a new opportunity under coach Dirk Kuyt. He was only able to make appearances this season in the Berlin reserves in the Northeast Regional League. The last coach that Hussein called up in the professional field was Pál Dárdai, under whom he made his only two starting eleven appearances for the Old Lady on the last two match days of 2023/24.
In the summer there was talk of a plan to loan Hussein out. His former club AIK from Solna, Sweden, is said to have been interested. In Berlin, the prospect of playing time had diminished significantly with the signings of Michaël Cuisance (25), Kevin Sessa (24) and Diego Demme (33) for the new season. Beerschot has a need in midfield following the long-term absence of captain Ryan Sanusi (32). Hussein’s contract with Hertha BSC is valid until 2026. Since his move to Berlin, when the two-time Sweden international was valued at 2 million euros, his market value has drastically reduced to just 400,000 euros.
