Marta Bassino (ITA)
Marta Bassino is also pushing the pace at the top! But she can’t keep it that way and takes the deficit with her throughout the rest of the run. But she doesn’t advance any further and ranks in sixth place. Things didn’t go well for the Italian, especially down below.
10:12
Sara Hector (SWE)
Oh, Sara Hector obviously doesn’t have the perfect run here. The turns are not as harmonious as those of the two riders in front of her. Because she also drives a bit defensively, she falls relatively far behind. Her journey gets better towards the bottom and she ends up in third place. But a lot can still happen in the second run.
10:10
Federica Brignone (ITA)
But most likely Gut-Behrami’s era is now under direct attack. Or? Federica Brignone is on a similar path, making practically no mistakes and also pushing herself to the limit. In the meantime she was behind the Swiss, but in the last few goals she got it back and took the lead with a lead of 15 hundredths.
10:08
Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI)
Is Lara Gut-Behrami showing off her good Semmering form again? That looks good! She continually builds up her lead, makes clean turns and stays on track. That gives her a lead of 0.41 seconds! This trip could be worth something.
10:07
Thea Louise Stjernesund (NOR)
Will Thea Louise Stjernesund make it to the podium today? The start time is not quite as fast, but the Norwegian is still on the move around the peak time. Overall, she doesn’t get to the perfect pace to take the lead for a while. It’s only enough for them to finish fourth.
10:03
Valérie Grenier (CAN)
Times are getting faster and faster. Valérie Grenier starts very well and immediately builds up a small lead. After a driving error she falls back briefly, but since Grenier makes up for it in the lower part, the time lights up green at the end.
10:03
Alice Robinson (NZL)
Alice Robinson starts in a similar way to Ljutic, but then comes into it much better. She takes more risks and takes a more direct route. This is rewarded because she arrives at the bottom with half a second ahead.
10:01
Zrinka Ljutic (CRO)
Let’s go! Zrinka Ljutic starts the race and shows us a nice start at the top. After a few swings she gets into the rhythm and gets going. Overall, this is a course that is nice to look at. Ljutic reached the finish after a somewhat more cautious ride with a running time of 1.03 minutes.
09:57
Just a few more minutes
It’s about to start, the forerunners are already on the way. The weather is absolutely worthy of a World Cup race and so things can get off to a really good start.
09:54
Who will win the race?
We should especially pay attention to Sara Hector, Federica Brignone and Zrinka Ljutic. But many other drivers also have a really good chance of making their way to the top here. Lara Gut-Behrami doesn’t have the best prospects on paper, but she came second at the last event on the Zauberberg and should therefore have a good feeling at the start. Of course we also want to look at Theo Louise Stjernesund or Camille Rast. Mikaela Shiffrin is known not to be there after her fall in Killington.
09:47
Rest with the best Swiss chances
Lara Gut-Behrami starts the race with number five and therefore very early. This means she can send initial information to Camille Rast, who will start eleventh. Rast also has the best chance of a good placement. Wendy Holdener and Simone Wild (25 and 27) also start in the top 30. But even after that, it’s far from over for Switzerland. Because Stefanie Grob (37) will also try to score important points. In position 48, Delphine Darbellay can move out of a World Cup starting house for the first time. Vanessa Kasper (50), Janine Schmitt (62) and Melanie Meillard (63) complete the squad.
09:40
Austria also has young athletes
Stephanie Brunner starts with start number 13 for the team from Austria. Julia Scheib follows directly behind her. She is currently the best-placed Austrian in the giant slalom World Cup. Katharina Liensberger and Franziska Gritsch wear the numbers 16 and 18 on their jerseys. Ricarda Haaser (21) then completes the ÖSV team’s first block. Further on, things get interesting again. Because then Victoria Olivier, Katharina Huber and Viktoria Bürgler follow. Olivier and Bürgler have both only completed one World Cup start so far and are probably mainly looking to gain experience with that today.
09:32
Jana Fritz with debut
The DSV has registered four athletes for the giant slalom. Lena Dürr starts with start number 32. Your goal will be to get back into the starting groups among the top 30. Emma Aicher (41) is the second in the group who definitely wants to fight for points. Fabiana Dorigo and Jana Fritz follow a little further back, namely 53rd and 59th. After Fritz achieved good results in Fis and European Cup races this year, she can celebrate her World Cup debut today.
09:27
Welcome
Good morning and welcome to the women’s giant slalom in Semmering. Zrinka Ljutic will open the first run at ten o’clock.
