Rented apartment: This is how long you can take in refugees

To escape the war in Ukraine, many people are fleeing their homeland. Ukrainians also arrive in Germany. Only: How can I help with the accommodation?

In view of the war in Ukraine, the willingness to help in Germany is great. In addition to monetary and material donations, some people also provide living space. But tenants should know: After a certain period of time, the landlord’s consent is required.

If you want to take refugees into your rented apartment for up to eight weeks, you do not need to inform your landlord. This is reported by the German Tenants’ Association.

In the case of a recording for a longer period, however, landlords would have to agree in principle. There is an exception if the persons admitted are spouses, life partners, children or parents.
