On January 16, a tragedy took place in Weiteveen. 44-year-old Ineke and her 38-year-old husband Sam were murdered by Richard K., with whom they had been in conflict for a year.
The argument between the couple and K. was about the sale of a home. That January morning, K. drives into Ineke and shoots the woman in the head several times at close range. Then he goes to her house and rings the doorbell. He shouts that an accident has happened to Ineke. In the house he shoots at 38-year-old Sam, stabs him and hits him on the head. The man dies from the injury.
The role that social media then plays is striking. K. emotionally tells his story live on Facebook. He says that something bad has happened and that he will probably go to jail. Initially he receives a lot of support.
Later, support gives way to shock. When K. appears in court for the first time in April, he tearfully expresses regret. He apologizes to family, relatives and friends. “I would have loved to see it differently,” he says, sobbing.
The judge has no doubt that K. is guilty. “Everything is on camera, it is certain that you killed these two people.” It still needs to be thoroughly investigated how the man came to this act, the judge believes.
The substantive hearing of the case is scheduled for February.
