Willem II gets rid of trainer Fred Grim and technical director Joris Mathijsen

Eredivisie club Willem II has suspended both trainer Fred Grim and technical director Joris Mathijsen today. Grim, who lives in the Beemster, has been standing in front of the Tilburg group since last summer. Willem II is in a disappointing fifteenth place in the Eredivisie

The 56-year-old Grim was taken over by Willem II from fellow provincial RKC last summer. The Amsterdam-born trainer started the season excellently, but has only won once since November. Last Saturday’s draw against Heerenveen meant the end for the former goalkeeper of Ajax.

Joris Mathijsen

Like Grim, the management of Willem II has decided that technical director Joris Mathijsen must also leave the field. The former AZ player has been responsible for incoming and outgoing transfers at Willem II since 2016. The 41-year-old Mathijsen still had a contract until 2025.

Denny Landzaat, Grim’s assistant, will remain on board with Willem II for the time being. The former AZ player came to Tilburg on the intercession of Grim. Whether Landzaat will now fulfill the position of interim trainer has not yet been announced.
